'Looks like we made it': Cudahy music teacher wins Manilow Music Project Award

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Alex St. Louis, a music teacher at Cudahy High School, has been announced as the winner of Barry Manilow's Manilow Music Project Teacher Award in Milwaukee. The announcement came in a Thursday, July 25 press release.

St. Louis and Cudahy High School will receive a combined $10,000 grant from the Manilow Fund. St. Louis will be honored during Manilow's concert at Fiserv Forum on Saturday, Aug. 3.

The Manilow Music Project says that the award was created after a friend asked Manilow for a saxophone for his high school daughter.

The award is said to have been launched in response to budget cuts in school music programs and has donated over $10 million in instruments and scholarships across the United States.

Students from 10 local high schools nominated their favorite music teachers and voted for the winner. Cudahy High School will receive $5,000 in new band instruments, and St. Louis will receive a $5,000 grant as the winning teacher.
