A new community garden is sprouting on Milwaukee's north side. It's called the "Marcus Garvey Community Garden."
The garden is near 37th and Burleigh and honors 8 African American heroes and heroines.
Each garden will have vegetables or flowers representing those who contributed so much to society.
The organizer says she hopes it will teach young people about important figures from history.
"Once they know their history and see they came from a mighty race, they can love their selves then they can love others," said Lavita Booker of the Marcus Garvey Organization.
The garden's launch also coincided with the 100th anniversary of the "Silent Parade" when 10,000 African American men, women, and children marched for civil rights.
