Milwaukee Center for Independence Notifies State of Layoffs

Milwaukee Center for Independence, located at 2020 West Wells Street, Milwaukee, has notified the state that up to 1,062 workers may be affected as Family Care members choose another agency.

This was caused by a contract change for in-home care and case management services.

Separations will be effective December 31, 2016.  Regional workforce partner Employ Milwaukee will provide Rapid Response services as needed.

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Dislocated Worker Program provides transition assistance to workers and companies affected by permanent worker layoffs. The Program's local Rapid Response Teams help companies and worker representatives develop and implement a practical transition plan based on the size of the layoff event. Types of services include:
