MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – A Milwaukee man is facing several charges following a high-speed chase on September 2 with two children in the car.

According to a criminal complaint, Travis Nimmer is facing two counts of child neglect, three counts of second degree recklessly endangering safety, fleeing an officer and obstructing an officer.

Court documents state the incident began near Fond Du Lac and Grantosa when officers tried to pull a car over because the license plate did not match the vehicle.

Authorities say Nimmer did not pull over and instead drove off. A chase began and continued for 5.7 miles reaching speeds of up to 100 miles per hour in residential areas.

According to the criminal complaint, Nimmer eventually lost control of the car and crashed into a vacant house. He ran from the scene and was later taken into custody.

Officers learned there was a 2-year-old, 7-month-old and 28-year-old in the car with Nimmer. The 2-year-old was not in a car seat.

In a police interview, Nimmer told authorities he knew he had a warrant and once the police turned on their lights, he kept going. He said he smoked marijuana and knew he was supposed to pull over, but was high and scared. He then apologized for what happened.

Nimmer faces more than 50 years in prison.
