Milwaukee man charged with assault on 83-year-old Greendale resident

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 25-year-old Milwaukee man is charged with battery after assaulting an 83-year-old in Greendale earlier this month.

Police say on Sept. 13, Sean Robert Morris tried to break into one house, but was unsuccessful.

About an hour later, a burglary attempt was reported just a few blocks away. That's where the assault on the elderly victim took place.

According to a criminal complaint, a woman was heard screaming from the upstairs of a home. Officials located the 83-year-old victim tied by her feet to a bed, covered in bruises and blood. The woman had open wounds to her arms and wrists, authorities believed to be possible rope burns.

The victim told authorities, according to the complaint, the suspect -- later identified as Morris -- broke into her home, placed his hands over her mouth and caused her to pass out.

Investigators say the victim suffered a fractured nose and internal bleeding in her face that required surgery.

The woman reported two wedding rings were missing from her possession.

Authorities say Morris left a backpack inside the victim's home; receipts inside with Morris' name led them to his arrest.

During the arrest, police recovered the two wedding rings belonging to the victim.

Morris has been charged with the following five counts:

  • Robbery with use of force
  • Aggravated battery
  • Strangulation and suffocation
  • False imprisonment
  • Burglary -- commit a battery on person

His preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 17.
