Milwaukee Public Museum previews holiday event calendar
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Public Museum is gearing up for a festive holiday season, with a series of decorated exhibits and special events planned for December and into the start of 2024.
The museum is bringing back two popular events after a pandemic-induced hiatus: "European Village Alive!" and the Old Milwaukee Mixer. These events aim to recreate the charm of the early 20th-century holiday celebrations in Europe and Milwaukee.
Visitors to the museum can experience a unique holiday twist in the Streets of Old Milwaukee and European Village exhibits, both transformed into historical winter wonderlands, now through Jan. 21, 2024. The Streets of Old Milwaukee features Victorian-era decorations, while the European Village will showcase holiday traditions from various European cultures.
"European Village Alive!" will see museum staff and volunteers dressed in period costumes, sharing stories and traditions from European immigrants that have influenced American holidays on Friday, Dec. 8 and Saturday, Dec. 9, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will also include a display of holiday-themed artifacts and traditional recipes for visitors to take home.
The Florentine Opera Holiday Concert is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 11, from 2 to 3 p.m., featuring the Baumgartner Studio Artists. This concert, taking place in front of the Butterfly Vivarium, is part of the SPARK! program for people with early-stage dementia and their care partners, but all museum visitors are welcome to attend.
For adults, the Old Milwaukee Mixer offers a unique experience on Thursday, Dec. 14, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the Streets of Old Milwaukee exhibit. This event includes appetizers, drink pairings and interactive activities exploring Victorian-era party themes. Tickets are $32.
Free Holidays in History tours are taking place every Saturday in December, except Dec. 9, from 11 a.m. to noon. These tours will delve into the holiday traditions brought by European immigrants to Milwaukee.
