Milwaukee to 'rock around the Christmas tree,' city searching for official 2023 tree 🎄
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The City of Milwaukee's Department of Public Works, in partnership with the Milwaukee Bucks, is on the hunt for the perfect evergreen to rock around this holiday season.
The selected tree will adorn Deer District outside Fiserv Forum.
Beginning the search for its 110th annual city Christmas tree, the department has opened nominations for residents and property owners within city limits. The deadline to nominate a tree is Friday, Oct. 6.
Criteria for eligible trees include standing at least 30 feet tall and being easily accessible for harvesting, meaning no interference from overhead wires. City forestry staff will handle cutting and transportation of the chosen tree, with a police escort accompanying it to its downtown destination.
Residents wishing to nominate a tree should contact the city at (414) 286-CITY (2489).
"Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree," your uniformity, size, shape, density and color will be thoroughly judged.
After a comprehensive evaluation, the winning tree will be featured prominently in the tree lighting ceremony slated for November, alongside Mayor Cavalier Johnson and the tree's donors.
