Milwaukee woman charged in connection to Brown Deer bank robbery
BROWN DEER, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee woman has been charged in connection to the robbery of a Brown Deer bank.
Deasha Sanders, 24, is facing the following charges:
- Robbery of a financial institution (as a party to a crime)
- Fleeing or eluding an officer
- Second degree recklessly endangering safety
- Obstructing an officer
- Bail jumping
Officers responded to the incident at Tri-City National Bank around 1:49 p.m. Aug. 9.
A criminal complaint says they spoke with a teller who said a man held up a piece of paper that said something along the lines of, "give this amount of money or I will kill you."
The teller gave the suspect all the money in his drawer, coming to roughly $1,100.
The complaint says surveillance video shows a white minivan drop off the suspect less than a minute before the robbery occurred -- the suspect is then seen running back towards the vehicle after leaving the bank.
Glendale police attempted to stop the vehicle shortly after, and a pursuit began. Police say the minivan accelerated and rapidly changed speeds, disregarding a stop sign and almost causing a collision. Officers initiated a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle, and its front passenger got out of the minivan and fled on foot. The complaint says an officer began chasing the passenger, and the minivan drove into his path -- the officer reportedly had to push the vehicle away to avoid being run over. Prosecutors say the vehicle then continued south on N. 47th Street, and the pursuit ended just after 2 p.m.
Detectives later staked out the minivan after it was located in an alley, and saw Sanders get inside and start up the engine. She allegedly told authorities her boyfriend stole the van the night before and she came to pick it up. She claimed she had not been in the area otherwise. However, surveillance footage shows Sanders running from the area one minute after the pursuit ended, according to the complaint.
Sanders was arrested, and police reported finding two $20 bills with serial numbers linked to the robbery. Officers also said they found a torn piece of paper in the vehicle with the words, "No dye, no gps, or I'll kill you."
Court records show Sanders was previously charged with felony throwing or discharging bodily fluids at a public safety worker and released from custody under the condition that she commit no new crimes.
Cash bond has been set at $15,000. Sanders is due in court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 22.
