MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Organizers of Milwaukee's 52nd annual Juneteenth Day are going with a very inclusive theme this year.
"I am Juneteenth. That can be said by every single American."
Juneteenth President Tony Kearney Sr. and some of the organizers held a press conference Tuesday to spotlight the events connected to the June 19 celebration.
Juneteenth honors the freeing of slaves in America, but Tony Kearney says every American was also freed from the "concept of tyranny."
"I want people to understand that this is an American holiday. I want them to see the best in African American culture because they helped create African American culture just like we did."
Juneteenth Day includes events like the annual parade, the Freedom Ball, a silent auction and much more.
"I Am Juneteenth" merchandise is going on sale this week.
