Neighbors shaken after fatal shooting near Farwell and Kane
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police said they are investigating what led up to a fatal shooting in an east side neighborhood that neighbors say does not have a lot of violent crime.
"(It's a) great area, but for that to happen here was very frightening," said Rick Swiontek. "I'm still kind of shook up about the whole thing."
Swiontek lives on the 1800 block of North Farwell Avenue. He said walked outside his apartment complex Saturday evening and saw the area had been taped off.
Police said a 34-year-old man was shot and killed on Farwell Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday.
"I just came out to see what was going on," he said. "There was about at least 5 to 7 people trying to revive the poor gentleman that got shot."
He contacted his property manager and said he also planned to contact his alderman to do what he could do and try to make the area safer.
Another neighbor who lived in the same building only wanted to be identified by his first name, Josh. He said violent crime is rare in the neighborhood and he does not see this shooting as a deterrent from living nearby.
"When you move to the city, it's not like you're blind to crime happening. So it wasn't like a shock to me, but obviously it's sad when that happens to anybody," Josh said.
