Madison, WIS. (CBS 58) -- New data shows there are more than 2,000 untested rape kits in Wisconsin involving potential child victims.
Some of those kids involve victims under the age of 10.
Officials say some kids aren't being tested right away because children aren't reporting the crimes.
"Their stories tend to be contradicted, or believed a little bit less, because people tend to believe they make up fantasies, or that they are dreaming up stories that may have happened, or something small might have happened, and they might be spiteful," said Jaime Sathasivam with the Rape Crisis Center in Madison.
A spokesperson for Attorney General Brad Schimel says they're focusing on results, not the backlog of untested kits.
State officials are using a $4 million federal grant to address the untested kits.
