Oconomowoc electronics and appliance recycling event to be held November 10

OCONOMOWOC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An electronics and appliance recycling event will be held in Oconomowoc on November 10 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The event is open to any Waukesha County resident and will take place at 630 South Worthington Street.

State law bans electronics and appliances from landfills and incinerators due to the valuable materials, like gold and copper, that can be recycled and reused. Some devices also contain hazardous materials like lead, mercury, cadmium, and chemical flame retardants that require proper disposal.

Items that will be collected at the event for a cash-only fee include television sets ($25 each) and cathode ray tube computer monitors ($10 each). Intact, non-working television or computer units will be accepted, however, broken or de-manufactured units will not be taken.

Other items that will be collected at no fee include computers, other computer monitors, printers, keyboards, laptops, scanners, DVD players, VCRs, stereos, cell phones, telephones, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, refrigerators, microwaves, water coolers, freezers, water heaters, washer/dryers, stoves, oven/ranges, and dishwashers.

These collection events are for household electronics and appliances only. Businesses are required by Wisconsin law to recycle and there are several options to contract for these services listed on our website, waukeshacounty.gov/recycling.

The Village of Mukwonago will host the next collection event on Saturday, December 8 at 630 W. Veterans Way from 9:00 a.m. to noon. For a list of upcoming events, business recycling options and locations to recycle broken or de-manufactured units, visit the website waukeshacounty.gov/recycling or call 262-896-8300.
