Police: Children fall out of moving van, dad later arrested in Sheboygan
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (CBS 58) – Sheboygan Police say a man was arrested Tuesday evening after his two children fell out of a van as it went through an intersection.
Authorities were called to the area near S. 8th St. and Indiana Ave. around 7:25 p.m. after a witness reported a one and three-year-old fell out of the white van. It happened in front of 17-year-old Alexis and her friend Olivia Fenske as they were driving. The teens say they saw the two children roll out and land on the ground. They say the children's father driving the van didn't stop or slow down.
"Laying down on his stomach and he was completely naked," Alexis said. "I picked him up, he was balling, and he was shaking."
Officers got to the scene and found out who the father was after speaking with the injured three-year-old. Officers say when they got to his house, the father was unloading his three other kids from the van but didn't realize he was missing two others.
"The gentleman involved told us that he was unaware that the children weren’t still in the vehicle," Sheboygan Police Lt. Doug Teunissen said.
Lt. Teunissen believes the toxicology report will show the father was high on medications. The father was driving with a revoked license and this will be his 5th OWI offense. The district attorney says he'll likely be charged Thursday with OWI and Child Neglect.
Both children were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Neither of them have life-threatening injuries, but one child has a serious head injury.
