Protesters voice concerns for Menomonee school board candidates attending event at gun shop
MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- This morning, people gathered outside Shepard Arms, voicing their concerns for Menomonee school board candidates attending an event at a gun shop.
Candidates Adam Sachs and Chris Stueland, who is currently the vice president on the school board, were both guests at an event held by Turning Point Action, a conservative organization.
Across the street, people were protesting against the event, saying school board campaigns should not be happening at gun shops.
CBS 58 was not allowed inside, but it was advertised as a ballot-chasing event to help people get out and vote. We spoke with people outside peacefully protesting, and those attending the event.
"I think it's completely inappropriate and if they can't see the optics of that, then their poor judgment disqualifies them to be on their school board," said Mary Przybylski, protester.
"Nothing had to do with anything with the gun shop itself, anything with the second amendment they just stated, you know, what they are running on, their campaigns," said Richard Longfellow, parent.
We reached out to both candidates, one didn't get back to us, and the other declined to comment.
Shepard Arms has received pushback from the community before. When they first opened, some residents expressed their concerns about their location, as it is down the street from North middle school, and they felt it was too close to a school for comfort.
