Racine County conducts sex offender checks on Halloween, 4 violations reported
RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with the Division of Community Corrections, supervised checks on sex offenders on Tuesday, Oct. 31 during trick-or-treat hours.
According to RCSO, the checks were part of an initiative where offenders, supervised by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, signed a "Halloween Contract." The contract mandated them to remain indoors at least one hour before, during and one hour after trick-or-treating.
It also barred them from participating in any Halloween activities.
Out of the 91 compliance checks carried out, deputies reportedly detained four offenders for rule violations. Three of these were due to the possession of Halloween costumes, while one involved suspected drug use. Two warrants were also issued for offenders absent from their residence during the stipulated time.
On the enforcement efforts, Sheriff Christopher Schmaling remarked in a Wednesday, Nov. 1 media release, “I'm grateful to the law enforcement officers who ensured a secure and enjoyable Halloween.”
