RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine Police Department confirms that the shooting Friday morning was a murder-suicide.
"He took her life in front of the kids. And then taking his own life, just a shortcut," said Arelys Brillo-Nieves, a friend of the victim.
Arelys says the victim was her best friend, Angelica Rios.
"That was her ex, and I went with her to get a restraining order in the past, two of them, actually," said Arelys.
She says she's sharing her story in the hopes that something like this doesn't happen to someone else.
"Domestic abuse is real, and there's warnings, they don't change. They can say they changed, not with you, it doesn't get better."
Friends of the victim say a vigil will be held in the coming days.
