Roundtable discussion held on Black voter outreach during RNC
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --- On day two of the Republican National Convention, U.S. Senator Tim Scott spoke at a roundtable event focused on Black voter outreach and the Opportunity Zones initiative in Milwaukee and across the country.
The event was held at the WisGOP Black Community Center on MLK Drive. CBS 58 spoke to voters afterwards who say they're excited to see the Milwaukee in the spotlight this week and feel confident that the Republican party will succeed in this upcoming election.
Scott was joined by some local community leaders for a discussion about Opportunity Zones. The IRS defines Opportunity Zones as economically distressed communities where new investments may be eligible for tax breaks under certain conditions.
Scott talked about the success of the program and its impact locally. One voter told CBS 58 he came to the event to hear what Senator Scot had to say and said while he's pleased with Opportunity Zones, he was hoping to hear more from Scott about how the GOP will continue to move local communities forward.
"I believe the voters of Milwaukee, especially in this community really want to hear more substance about what's going to improve their lives economically," said Travis Clark, who says he plans to vote for former President Trump.
Other votes said they're pleased with the level of outreach to the local Black community from the WisGOP leaders. Sharon Yancy attended the roundtable discussion and says she plans to vote for Trump.
She believes he's the best candidate for the job.
"We need more peace and harmony and I think once people get educated ...and get their families in order…I think things will work out better and I think that President Trump can do that – I know a lot of people don't, but I think he can," said Yancy.
