MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers just expanded its Chavez Clinic and headquarters.
The health group cut the ribbon on the expansion with city and state leaders Thursday afternoon, Jan. 30.
The three-story expansion is at the north side of the current Chavez Clinic. It includes new spaces for mental health treatment, since the group's leaders found an increased need after the pandemic. It also has a pharmacy in the building.
Sixteenth Street leaders tell us the clinic is in what they call a "pharmacy desert."
"Having a pharmacy right under the same roof where our doctors can prescribe the medications, the patients can walk right over to the pharmacy, is a really excellent added benefit for our patients," said Dr. Julie Schuller, president and CEO, Sixteenth Street Community Health Center.
Patients will also have direct access to the women, infants and children, or WIC resources right under the same roof.
