Slice of Ice celebrating season opening with free skate rentals
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's Slice of Ice opens for the season Wednesday, December 12.
The ice skating rink at Red Arrow Park in downtown will welcome its first customers at 11:00 a.m.
To celebrate opening day, they're offering free skate rentals from 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.
Slice of Ice is free to use for skaters with their own ice skates, and skate rentals are available in the warming house for $7 per pair for ages 17 and under or $9 per pair for adults.
Organizers say toddler-sized plastic skating supports will be available again this year for only a $1 rental fee and $5 refundable deposit or photo ID. ADA Ice sleds for people with limited mobility will be available for free use when requested 24-hours in advance.
New this year, skaters will be encouraged to wear their ugly sweaters on December 21 for Ugly Sweater Day, presented by WaterStone Bank. Skaters who participate will receive a coupon for a free skate rental in January or February. Skaters will also have a chance to win prizes, including parks gift cards, as part of the Slice of Nice contest.
Slice of Ice will open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Sunday through Monday with extended hours over the holidays. The complete season schedule and school field trip information are available at www.SliceofIce.com or by calling 414-289-8791.
