MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's Black community got together to celebrate Kwanzaa with the Ujamaa Marketplace, hosted by America's Black Holocaust Musem and the Bronzeville Collective. The event was held on Sunday, Dec. 29.

The museum was decked out with holiday decorations, and more than 20 hometown vendors set up to sell everything from books and jewelry.

Kwanzaa celebrates seven principles over seven days. Today is day four, Ujamaa, or cooperative economics, is observed. That is why everyone came together today for the market.

"It's very important the business in our community actually support the community. There are a lot of folks here that I see throughout the year who I know are supporting the community. They're having events at their shops, they're giving away free things and they're supporting people," said Rep. Supreme Moore Omokunde.

Milwaukee was one of the first cities in the U.S. to celebrate Kwanzaa. The holiday was created in 1966 and its first celebration here was just one year later.
