FBI Milwaukee field office offering outreach to UWM students
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A new initiative program aims to partner Milwaukee college students with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to teach a variety of subjects presented by special agents, analysts and other FBI professionals assigned to the FBI Milwaukee field office.
The FBI and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee issued a joint press release on Wednesday, Sept. 28 to announce the FBI Outreach to College and University Students, also known as FOCUS. The program is presented as a partnership between the FBI and UWM's criminal justice program.
FOCUS is designed for students who seek to learn more about the FBI's programs, priorities and even career opportunities.
Sessions will take place at UWM on Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m. on the following schedule:
- Sept. 29: Civil rights, public corruption and white-collar crimes.
- Oct. 27: Violent crime, violent gangs and criminal enterprises.
- Nov. 17: Human trafficking and violent crimes against children.
- Jan. 26: Use-of-force presentation and an interactive simulation.
- Feb. 23: Cyber crime and counterintelligence programs.
- Mar. 30: Intelligence and counterterrorism programs.
- Apr. 20: Critical incident, crisis management and recruitment programs.
The sessions will be held in-person, upon completing the program, students will earn a certificate of completion for their resume. All UWM students are eligible, though UWM's FOCUS webpage currently shows the program as being full.
