Waukesha Police Department introduces 'Body Worn Camera Program'

WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Waukesha Police Department has launched a "Body Worn Camera Program", where every officer will be equipped with body worn cameras and activated during calls and enforcement actions in the public.

Officials say these body worn cameras have been proven to improve officer safety, get valuable evidence and provide for increased transparency during police contacts.

Waukesha Police Chief Thompson says the body worn cameras help show the level of service that is provided to the Waukesha community on a regular basis. Thompson also says these products "will maintain the integrity of digital evidence for the courtroom and help train our officers to provide even better service in the future".

These body worn cameras are a part of Axon products that the Waukesha Police Department is implementing.
