WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A West Allis Common Council meeting filled up Tuesday night as a local bar's license to sell alcohol was put up for a vote. The controversy continues, surrounding The Drunk Uncle.

The Public Safety Committee voted to not renew The Drunk Uncle's retail alcohol license. Now, the whole council is in agreement, standing by that vote.

The reason cited to not renew the license for the bar is failure to submit proof of a seller's permit -- something the city attorney says was revoked by the state.

This means the bar will receive a notice on the city's intent not to renew, but this is the first of many steps to make it official.

However, this also comes as a lawsuit was filed against the owner, Neal Steffek, on Friday, by a customer who is suing him for defamation.

The woman who filed the lawsuit, Brynn Dutelle, posted a Google review claiming a bartender touched her face and made inappropriate comments, also saying the owner kept kissing her friend and offering her a job.

Dixon Gahnz, Dutelle's lawyer, says Stefek then learned where she worked and posted a review on her employer's page falsely claiming Dutelle sexually assaulted a bartender while drunk.

The city says the community has been vocal of their concerns of these allegations.

"I'm ashamed of having an establishment like that in the city, and too often women aren't believed, and their concerns aren't taken seriously," said Andrew Wehrheim, a resident who spoke at the meeting.

"At this point in time, no charges have been filed, but the prosecutor is working on the case right now and if he feels sufficient evidence is being presented to file a complaint, then we file with the city clerk in due time," said Kail Decker, the city attorney for West Allis.

We tried to talk with Steffek after the meeting, but he wouldn't speak with us. However, there were people present at the meeting showing support for him and the bar.
