Wheelchair athletes visit school where student was paralyzed after car accident

CALEDONIA, Wis. (CBS 58) – A school visit from U-W Whitewater’s wheelchair basketball team put a smile on the face of young students in Caledonia and was especially meaningful for one little boy.

Last year, a student-athlete at Olympia Brown Elementary School in Racine was involved in a car accident leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.

His teacher organized the visit to show him he can still be involved in athletics.

“I graduated with a degree in physical education and now my job is to teach these athletes at U-W Whitewater, so I absolutely love my job. I’m presented with a lot of opportunities and all of those opportunities for myself and for my athletes are because they don’t let challenges stop them from being successful,” said Jeremy Lade, Director of Wheelchair Athletics at UW-Whitewater.

The athletes explained their disabilities to the students and how they got into wheelchair basketball.
