MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau is warning people about scams targeting those aged 18-24, based on a study using data up to June 24.
Wisconsin BBB President Jim Temmer joined us on Monday, Nov. 6 with some awareness tips. He noted that fake check and reshipping schemes are prevalent threats, with data also revealing that young adults are often tricked into fraudulent transactions, with losses peaking at a median of $220.
Temmer pointed out that scammers typically use digital payment apps and text messages to execute their ploys. Online purchase and rental scams also pose significant risks, with the former frequently involving event tickets.
The BBB urges caution, emphasizing that scams often originate from websites and social media.
