Woman accused of kidnapping nephew to appear in Wisconsin courtroom

MILWAUKEE -- 31-year-old Kristen Smith is expected to return to Wisconsin February 21st when federal agents bring her in for an initial appearance in federal court. Smith is facing federal kidnapping charges after she allegedly kidnapped her infant nephew from his Beloit home on February 6, 2014.
A police chief in West Branch, Iowa found the infant in a plastic tote outside of a BP gas station the next day. The infant survived sub-freezing temperatures covered in a blanket. Investigators say Smith had been faking a pregnancy.
