UW-Milwaukee Police Chief David Salazar resigns

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) Police Chief David Salazar has resigned.

In a letter his lawyer shared with local media, Salazar accuses UWM's head legal counsel of undercutting his findings that antisemitic incidents did happen on campus during the spring.

In a statement Thursday afternoon, a UWM spokesperson said:

"UWM is deeply disappointed in David Salazar’s resignation through the media, which UWM learned about through news reports. He was the subject of a misconduct investigation that began in March and was in its final stages when he resigned publicly and attacked the university in anticipation of the investigation’s outcome. His allegations are gross misstatements and contrary to any facts.
UWM is also deeply disappointed that he chose to make false accusations against the institution and its employees to deflect against his own misdeeds.
UWM Police Capt. Brian Switala has served as acting police chief since Salazar was placed on administrative leave, effective April 26, 2024."
