GERMANTOWN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 19-year-old woman has died, and two other teens were injured, after a police pursuit led to a crash in Germantown Friday, Aug. 9.

Police say the pursuit began when an officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. Prior to the officer activating his emergency lights and siren, police say the suspect vehicle was observed accelerating at a high rate of speed away from the officer.

Officials say the fleeing vehicle continued for about one mile at a high rate of speed, failing to stop at a stop sign at an intersection and continuing down a gravel road.

A preliminary investigation showed the driver, a 19-year-old man, lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree.

Germantown fire officials responded to the intersection of Donges Bay Road and Division Road for a report of multiple people trapped inside a vehicle that was on fire.

The fire was extinguished by Germantown police officers, according to the Germantown FD, with three patients trapped inside the vehicle. The fire department says two of those patients had critical, life-threatening injuries.

Flight for Life was requested, however one individual- a 19-year-old woman- died from her injuries prior to transport. The two other patients, the 19-year-old driver and a 17-year-old boy, were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The crash is being investigated by Wisconsin State Patrol and the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
