Canstruction Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Canstruction returns to Milwaukee Public Museum from Feb. 1 through 16 for the third and final time in the current building before the museum moves in 2027.

Eleven teams of Milwaukee-area architecture, engineering and construction firms will each design and build a sculpture made of at least 1,000 canned and non-perishable food items inspired by the theme "CAN't Forget the Magic."

The sculptures will be inspired by museum exhibits.

The public can vote for their favorite sculptures as part of several awards. Following the exhibit, the food will be donated to the Jewish Community Pantry, a program of the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center.

Canstruction is included with MPM's daily admission, which is 25 percent off on the first day, Sunday, Feb. 1, as part of VISIT Milwaukee's Museum Days promotion.

An awards ceremony takes place from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, when admission is free. Judges will present awards for Best Meal, Best Structural Ingenuity, Best Use of Labels, Most Cans and People's Choice.

Last year's Canstruction at MPM resulted in the donation of approximately 35,000 canned and non-perishable food items, which supplied meals for more than six months.
