16-year-old shot and killed near 40th and Clarke

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 16-year-old boy is dead after a shooting Thursday morning, Aug. 13, on Milwaukee’s north side. 

Family members identified the 16-year-old as Armani Thomas-Cotton. They said he was kind and loved to play basketball.

Police said a person in a car fired a shot at Thomas-Cotton just after 9:30 a.m. near 40th and Clarke streets.

A neighbor said Thomas-Cotton was in the car when something happened. The neighbor said Thomas-Cotton ran from the car, was shot and then collapsed in the alley behind his home, where he died

Family members and friends gathered in the alley after the shooting. They cried and hugged as they waited for answers.

“Mama out there throwing up and crying she’s going to be doing that for the rest of her life, she’ll never be the same,” Ali Gray, a nearby resident said.

Police have not said whether the shooting was intentional and are still looking for suspects.

“No matter what color you are, no matter what your job title is, no matter what religion it’s a cry the community these are all our kids,” Gray said.
