2.9 magnitude earthquake recorded in Lake Michigan, east of Sturgeon Bay

STURGEON BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 2.9 magnitude earthquake was recorded east of Sturgeon Bay in Lake Michigan on Friday, Aug. 2. 

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake was reported to be 39 kilometers (24.2 miles) east-southeast of Sturgeon Bay at roughly 11 kilometers below Lake Michigan’s surface.

The earthquake measured 2.9 on the Richter Scale just before 9:20 a.m. 

This is the second earthquake in or near Wisconsin this year.
