3 Texas men charged with attempting to steal ATM from Brookfield bank

BROOKFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Three men from Texas have been charged with allegedly attempting to steal an ATM from a bank in Brookfield. 

According to the criminal complaint, the three men, 25-year-old Tydarian Curry, 25-year-old John Mouton, and 36-year-old Aaron Rubins are facing several charges.

25-year-old Tydarian Curry is facing the following charges: 

  • Possession of Burglarious Tools
  • Attempt Theft from a Financial Institution
  • Felony Criminal Damage to Property

25-year-old John Mouton is facing the following charges: 

  • Interference with an Automated Teller Machine
  • Possession of Burglarous Tools
  • Attempt Theft from a Financial Institution
  • Felony Criminal Damage to Property

36-year-old Aaron Rubins is facing the following charges:

  • Interface with an Automated Teller Machine
  • Possession of Burglarious Tools
  • Attempt to Steal from a Financial Institution 
  • Drive or Operate a Vehicle without a License
  • Felony Criminal Damage to Property

According to the criminal complaint, officers were dispatched to a burglary alarm at the Landmark Credit Union in the Town of Brookfield, on Wednesday, June 12. 

An officer reported that upon arrival, he observed a blue pickup truck with a yellow tow strap attached to the back of the truck and to an ATM machine. The complaint states the officer saw the truck accelerate at a high rate of speed, attempting to rip off the front of the ATM.

The officer reported two suspects in the parking lot by the pickup truck. One of the suspects noticed the officer, and ran they ran foot, according to the complaint. The officer reported observing both suspects, and described them to be Black males, around 20 years old, wearing black sweatshirts and black pants, according to the complaint. 

The officer stated he checked the truck, and there was no one else in it. A pursuit began, and the officer notified Waukesha County Communications. A perimeter was set up and a K9 track led officers to a tree line, where officers made contact with the subjects matching the descriptions given, per complaint. 

Officers told the subjects at gunpoint to show their hands and not to move, and the subjects complied, according to the complaint. 

The officer reported the first subject was verbally identified as Tydarian Curry, and the second subject was verbally identified as Aaron Rubins. Both were taken to the Town of Brookfield and placed in interview rooms. 

Per complaint, in the interview room, Rubin's stated "You can see how stupid we was, the police station right around the corner. You turned the corner, and I was like, damn, they was right there, you could see us."

The complaint stated that an officer was also dispatched to a burglary in progress at a Brookfield residence around 4:28 a.m. The caller said that there was a young Black man at the front door ringing the doorbell, who was wearing a red shirt. 

While Curry and Rubins were at the police department, the City of Brookfield advised there was a third Black male that ran from the vehicle that was wearing a red shirt, based off the security footage, according to the complaint. 

The third male was verbally identified as John Mouton. 

Back at the scene, a detective reported observing the ATM smashed with two large metal hooks partially inside of it, with tow straps securing the hooks onto the rear of the truck. 

According to the complaint, the detective reviewed the surveillance video, and witnesses the subjects attempt to remove the ATM. The detective reported that the individuals seen were later identified as Curry, Rubins, and Mouton.

The complaint says the detective made contact with a victim who said he was in Wisconsin for work and reported his vehicle stolen in the City of Milwaukee. The victim stated that where he was staying had surveillance footage, and that he had thousands of dollars of tools in the vehicle. The victim also said an Apple Air Tag on one of the tools. 

A pile of items was recovered in the parking lot, and the victim confirmed that those were the items back of the truck when stolen. 

Per complaint, the detective interviewed Rubins. Rubins said that he was visiting a friend in Wisconsin and drove to the area the day before. Rubins said he attempted to steal an ATM by himself, then got the vehicle down the street, but would not say how he obtained it. 

The damage to the ATM is estimated to be between $20,000 and $30,000.

Rubin and Mouton are due back in court for a preliminary hearing on June 26.

Curry is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on July 12.
