3 residents, 1 police officer injured in Racine house fire; dogs pulled from home

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A house fire in Racine sent four people to the hospital Tuesday, April 8.
Authorities were called to the home near Blake Avenue, near Yout Street, around 12:30 p.m.
Fire officials say one adult was initially reported unaccounted for by two juvenile residents that were in the front yard. They say the missing adult was quickly found in the back yard by search crews and the Racine police officer that pulled him out of the home.
The fire department says the officer was able to break into the home through the back door and found the man unconscious on the floor.
Police say multiple animals were also removed from the home. Fire officials say one dog has died.
One adult resident and two juvenile residents were taken to an area hospital -- Racine police say one of those people is in critical condition and the others have non-life-threatening injuries. A police officer was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries that occurred while pulling the man from the home.
Officials say no working smoke alarms were found in the residence.
The Red Cross is assisting the homeowners with temporary shelter and clothing.
An investigation is ongoing. Authorities say no criminal activity is suspected.
