MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- In effort to bring attention to various cancers, 414 Life hosted their second annual Colorectal and Prostate Cancer Awareness Basketball Game and Health Fair on Saturday, March 23.
It's the month of March Madness, and it's also colorectal cancer awareness month, so the group put the two together to put a bigger spotlight on the disease.
The event took place at Carmen High School of Science and Technology, and Milwaukee aldermen played basketball against community leaders. Which is something organizers say helps bring the community together and promote good health.
"I appreciate all the elected officials as well as community leaders making it happen today. That was very, very important for them to bring the community together and have them see themselves in the community for real and not just politicians knocking on a door," said Ericka Sinclair with 414 Life Milwaukee.
Sinclair tell us they were inspired by the late actor Chadwick Boseman, who played Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He passed away from colorectal cancer in 2020.
