5-year-old girl injured in shooting near 41st and Wright, 2nd child shot in Milwaukee in as many days
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a shooting that injured a 5-year-old girl Tuesday evening, July 18.
Officials say it happened around 5:30 p.m. near 41st and Wright.
The child was taken to an area hospital where she's said to be in stable condition.
People close to the family said the child had surgery and is now talking and playing with her siblings again.
Neighbor Latanya Beason said the little girl was out playing with neighborhood children when shots rang out.
"Me and her sister were waiting for her to come back from school yesterday, I hug her everyday, she makes sure she speaks to me every day. She's just a lively little girl. And it just hurts," said Beason.
Beason said the neighborhood was left shaken. She pleads for the violence to stop.
"Please stop killing the babies, put the guns down," said Beason.
According to Milwaukee police, in 2023, 103 young people between the ages of 2 to 18 years old have been shot in Milwaukee, 11 have been fatal.

The incident marks the second time a 5-year-old child was shot in the City of Milwaukee in as many days.
On Monday morning, a 5-year-old girl was injured in a shooting near 85th and Brown Deer.
She was taken to an area hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.
Police say a 35-year-old man was taken into custody in that incident.
