7 teens arrested after allegedly attempting to steal vehicle, gunfire exchanged with victim

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are investigating after they say shots were fired on the night of Tuesday, Aug. 27. 

According to police, several teens were trying to break into a vehicle near Corcoran and Jefferson around 7 p.m.

Police say the victim, a 28-year-old security guard, fired three shots in the air to try to stop them. 

The victim went up to one of the teens who was inside the vehicle.  That teen pointed a gun at the victim. 

The 28-year-old took cover, and the remaining teens pulled up in a vehicle and started shooting at the 28-year-old, according to police. The victim shot back, and the teens drove away.

No was injured from the gunfire.

The vehicle with the teens was seen by MPD officers near Water and Buffalo, and officers tried to pull the vehicle over. Police say the driver vehicle started to slow down, but then drove away. Officers chased the vehicle.

The chase ended when the suspect vehicle crashed with 2 other vehicles near 13th and Lincoln.

Seven teen suspects were arrested, ranging from the ages of 13-16:

  • A 16-year-old female
  • A16-year-old male 
  • Three 15-year-old males 
  • A 14-year-oldmale
  • A 13-year-old male

According to a police source, the teens arrested are associated with the Kia Boys.

The 28-year-old victim was also arrested. Police found several guns.

In a letter to the community regarding this incident, MPD Chief Jeffrey Norman wrote, in part, "Recently, I have had many sleepless nights over the arrests we are making of youth, many who are 14, some older, and some even younger at 11, 12 years of age. These kids are brazenly using firearms to take cars and other property from strangers. This compels me to call our community to intervene."
