MILWAUKEE, (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police say a 7-year-old has been taken to the hospital after being shot overnight on Saturday, October 31. 

Police responded to the scene near 41st and Garfield at around 1:15 a.m. where they found the victim had suffered gunshot injures before being transported for treatment.  

A 16-year-old has been arrested in connection to the incident.

Milwaukee police continue to investigate to investigate what led up to the incident, and they say criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office. 

MPD would like to remind the public to keep firearms out of the hands of children and properly store and secure them.
