70 dogs recovered from home in Fond du Lac County

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- 70 dogs were recovered from a home in Fond du Lac County on Wednesday, Nov. 6. 

According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office, they were called to a home around 11:27 a.m. in the Town of Calumet, for a welfare check and complaint. Police say initial reports said there was an unpleasant odor coming from the home.  

Deputies say they attempted contact at the residence and discovered 70 dogs in various stages of health. The home was found to be in deplorable condition. 

The sheriff's office gained access to the home after being granted a search warrant. The Calumet Fire Department was asked to assist with hazmat equipment, due to the unsanitary and hazardous conditions of the home. 

According to the sheriff's office, all of the dogs were removed safely and turned over to the Eastshore Humane Association.

The investigation is ongoing, and charges are expected to be filed when the investigation is over.
