NOW: CBS 58 Hometown Athlete: Milwaukee Barbarians spread the good word of rugby

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Rugby gives every player a chance.

"Rugby's really unique in that there's a spot on the field for anybody," Tom Fossell says. "It's like, that's what we kind of say. For the big guys, there are specific positions, right? Like you said, the big, strong guys, typically more forward oriented. More like lineman types. The fast guys, more like backs. Like wide receiver, quarterback types. But the sport takes all types."

The Milwaukee Barbarians are actually not like their nickname.

"No matter where it is in the world, you instantly have a new family that will, you know, give you the shirt off their back," Joe Grams says. "They'll let you sleep on their couch. Whatever it is that you need, they will help you with."

"We got guys on the team that drive up from Kenosha," Collin Deocampo says. "As far west as- not to Madison, but a little ways out there. I mean, people make their way into the city to come play with us."

Collin Deocampo makes sure the team hits on all cylinders.

"We like to come across as like a very organized team," Deocampo says. "Right? In a sport where there's a lot of guys that come from all different backgrounds, we like to treat our club like the premiere club in Wisconsin."

Tom Fossell says interest is growing.

"The game's grown leaps and bounds," Fossell says. "Obviously there was a lot of publicity with the women's team medaling last summer in the Olympics. It's all been good stuff for the game. High school level, college level, men's level. A lot of people showing a lot of really good interest in the sport that we love."

While Joe Grams makes his pitch from the pitch.

"Give rugby a try," Joe Grams says. "That's one of the pun phrases that rugby likes to say to people because when you score a touchdown is actually a try. So, give rugby a try."
