8 arrested in connection to Mount Pleasant shooting, 23 firearms recovered

MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Mount Pleasant police say eight people were arrested Wednesday, in connection to a mid-January shooting near 21st and Racine. 

Officers responded to a shots fired report in the area around 2 a.m. Jan. 18 and determined a confrontation had taken place between two groups. Multiple armed individuals exchanged gunfire, and a 22-year-old man was shot in the leg, according to police. He was treated at a local hospital and has since been released. 

Mount Pleasant police, with the assistance of several other departments, executed search warrants at eight locations Wednesday, taking eight people into custody on charges related to their alleged involvement in this incident. 

Officials say investigators recovered 23 firearms, about 26 grams of crack cocaine, 245 grams of THC and 310 grams of synthetic THC during Wednesday's operation. 

Additional charges may be referred to the Racine County DA's office pending a review of evidence.
