MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — The grand, cathedral-like reception area of the Quadracci Pavilion at the Milwaukee Art Museum is Windhover Hall. It was named after one of donor Harry Quadracci's favorite poems, "The Windhover."
Windhover is an old folk name for the common kestrel, a small falcon known for its hovering flight that allows it to scan for prey while suspended in midair.
A fitting name because resting atop Windhover Hall is the museum's most iconic feature, its movable wings, or the Burke Brise Soleil.
The leader of the team who oversees the operation and maintenance of not only the wings, but the entire museum campus, gave CBS 58 Sunday Morning a behind-the-scenes tour of this engineering marvel.
