A September To Remember... At Least So Far
Of course everybody talks about the weather, but I can't remember a stretch like we've had this month where almost every comment has been positive. When your job is to forecast and talk about the weather on TV, you're an easy target to hear when it's too cold, too hot, too dry, too wet, too windy... you get the idea. But that's OK, it's part of the job and most meteorologists understand that.
But that's why this September's stretch of weather so special. There has been almost nothing to complain about. For the most part we've had warm sunny days and comfortably cool nights. When we needed the rain, it poured. Most importantly, the weekends have been wonderful.
Let's take a closer look inside the numbers to see exactly what's going on. First of all, our average temperature for the month is 68.8° through September 23rd. That ranks as the tenth warmest start on record and almost 4.5° above normal. However, if you single out high temperatures, the average is 78° or a full 6° above the monthly average to date. Not surprisingly, sky conditions have been reported clear to partly cloudy on 22 of the 23 days recorded in the books so far.
With seven days left in the month and temps forecast to climb back into the mid to upper 70's by the end of the weekend and early next week, it's completely possible September 2015 could end up as one of the top 5 warmest on record. Oh yeah, did I mention more sunshine through the weekend as well. So please keep talking about the weather, as long as you're not complaining, because this will be a September to remember!!
