SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The recent cold snap has forced a historic downtown Sheboygan building to temporarily shut its doors.

On Christmas morning, Above and Beyond Children Museum sustained substantial ice and water damage, which closed it down.

This place is usually filled with 300-400 kids.

But on Christmas morning, the staff was greeted by a new surprise, just days before their 30th anniversary.

For the staff of Above and Beyond Children's Museum, in downtown Sheboygan Christmas morning, it was anything but a Christmas miracle.

"Cold air came in, and at some point, the furnaces went out, the pipes froze and then the snuck pump was pumping water out into the streets," said Carrie Green, VP of Above and Beyond Children's Museum.

Pipes bursting and water freezing -- and leaving major damage throughout this historic 10,000 square foot building.

"Oh no, I was just praying that the damage was contained to the basement that's enough," said Green.

Now, the not subtle hum of fans.

"I wish there were children running around here right now, this is what they should be doing. School is closed and we want kids back in here as quickly as possible," said Green.

Despite the damages, Carrie Green says there is always hope.

"We are taking this crisis and trying to flip it upside down, think beyond the scope of what we see and to something bigger and better," said Green.
