ALDI grocery store at Sherman and Custer set to close Jan. 11
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Another Milwaukee grocery store will soon be closing.
ALDI, located near Sherman and Custer, will close its doors Sunday, Jan. 11, according to Milwaukee's District 1 Alderwoman Andrea Pratt.
Ald. Pratt said the store is one of several recent closures in neighborhoods that already have limited fresh food resources.
"The closing is disappointing and will make it more difficult for many regular customers -- especially those who do not have access to a vehicle -- to obtain their groceries and other critical items," she wrote.
For many people in the area, it's one of the closest places to buy groceries.
The closure comes months after Kroger shut down several Pick n' Save stores in southeast Wisconsin, including one on the city's north side. And another nearby store could be next, Sherman Park Grocery Store warned earlier this month that it's in danger of closing.
Shoppers say this ALDI is the easiest way to access food on foot and a store three or four miles away isn't an option for everyone.
“You’re closing the Aldi, for what?" said Larenze Fenner, shopper. "This is the second it third Aldi that's closing in Milwaukee and it don’t make no sense. You’re doing it and now what are we supposed to do?”
With this store closing, neighbors say their options keep shrinking. Many are now anticipating more stores closing in the future.
