MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Madison officials made an announcement Thursday, Sept. 24, in relation to body cameras on police officers. They say all Madison police officers will have bodycams by the end of next year. 

This was made possible by a $350,000 grant from the Madison Community Foundation. 

Thursday's announcement comes after the fatal police shooting of Corey Ruiz back in July, in which no officers were equipped with bodycams. 

"So while we know that body-worn cameras will not be the tool that will fix every strained relationship, they absolutely can play a big role in rebuilding trust and improving transparency," Madison Police Chief John Patterson said. 

Officials say the first cameras should begin rolling out by the start of next summer.
