MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Alpha Epilon Pi nationals have suspended its Madison chapter programming amid an ongoing hazing investigation that saw two 20-year-olds arrested.

On Wednesday, Sept. 23, Madison police say they found roughly 30 young men, most of them just 18-years-old, covered in food and other material. 

In a statement from Chief Communications Officer Jonathan Pierce, AEPi nationals say they have issued a cease-and-desist order, pending the findings from the hazing investigation:

"Immediately upon hearing of these allegations, AEPi Headquarters issued a cease-and-desist directive to its Pi Chapter in Madison, Wisconsin, suspending all chapter programming pending the investigation."

The national chapter says this bans new member meetings, social and brotherhood events, philanthropy, chapter social media activity and other chapter gatherings, while permitting essential executive board administrative responsibilities to continue.  

AEPi said it is also urging members to cooperate fully with the investigation, which will inform recommendations to the fraternity's Supreme Board of Governors for further actions impacting the chapter and/or individual members. 

The Fraternity went on to denounce hazing and says it is a betrayal of everything their fraternity stands for:

"There is no place for it in AEPi. No exceptions. No excuses. We educate our members about their responsibility to ‘Be Your Brothers’ Keeper.’ This is not an optional value. It is a fundamental expectation of membership. Anyone who engages in hazing forfeits the privilege of being an AEPi brother.”

The national chapter also says any member found responsible for criminal conduct in this matter will be expelled from AEPi and they will support prosecution to the fullest extent of the law. As well as working with the university in hopes that they will take action against individual perpetrators for violation of the student code of conduct.
