Alverno College students donate Thanksgiving turkeys

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Alverno College students demonstrated the "giving" in Thanksgiving on Tuesday.

They loaded 320 turkeys onto a Hunger Task Force Truck. The turkeys will help needy families enjoy a holiday meal. Alverno's athletics department organized the campus food drive.

Students donated $4,000 from their own meal money to buy the birds.

"I know somebody donated like $250 off their meal plan and that's just, it's incredible just to know that somebody would be willing to give that much to somebody in need," said Alverno College senior Mackenzie Mathies.

"It's pretty amazing. I would hope that if I was in the same situation as some of these families that someone would do the same for me, so it's nice to be able to do that for these families," Alverno College senior Danielle Hood said.

For the seventh year, CBS 58 is teaming up with The Brewers Community Foundation and Hunger Task Force to host the Thanksgiving Drive Thru Food Drive on Wednesday. Donations can be dropped off at Helfaer Field from 5 a.m.-6 p.m.
