The historic Ambassador Hotel in Milwaukee is marking 90 years in 2018.

It was rescued from certain demolition when purchased by Marquette Grad Rick Wiegand and his wife in the 90's.

"It was a negative influence on the neighborhood," Wiegand acknowledge in an interview to be shown on the CBS 58 News at 4. "So it was exciting to help turn it around and uncover the historic charm that had been covered. Everything's original. From the polished chrome light fixtures to the marble floor. It was fun to discover it and restore it."

Wiegand says all systems are a go to buy the nearby Wisconsin Avenue school and renovate it and then call it the Ambassador Suites.

It's part of revitalizing the area of Milwaukee west of Marquette University through the group called the Near West Side Partners.

"We're gonna do it again by buying the school. It will really get the neighborhood going, like we did 23 years ago."

But first things first.

To begin the year the hotel is hosting a roaring 20's themed party.

It sold out, but a special package is being made available Thursday for a lucky couple that still wants to get in on the action.

It will be followed with a series of events aimed at evoking Wisconsin Price while changing the image of Wisconsin cuisine.

"It's one thing to restore just a gorgeous hotel," said Kyle Cherek of Wisconsin Foodie. "It's another to bring the culinary level up to the level that Rick and his wife have."
