Trimborn Farm’s lime kilns and their role in building Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A restaurant in Milwaukee is getting recognition after ten years of open doors.
And those doors aren't just open to diners but also to people in the LGBTQ+ community seeking a safe haven.
It's Amilinda Day today, officially declared by Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley.
Gregory Leon opened up the restaurant a decade ago and it's become a haven for the LGBT+ and HIV community in Milwaukee. The restaurant also hosts chefs as guests.
"When we opened the restaurant all we wanted to do is make a little bit of money and cook," said Chef Leon. "It's quite surprising to me how much this little space means to everybody, strangers, so, just thank you."
Chef Leon is a three-time James Beard Award Nominee.
He and the chefs at Amilinda serve up Portuguese and Spanish inspired cuisine.
