MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Another donor has come forward to help cover the costs of removing the stranded boat from Milwaukee's Bradford beach.

The Daniel W. Hoan Foundation is contributing $10,000 to the effort.

Foundation president Dan Steininger said he met the boat's owners right after they crashed into the rocks last October.

He said they lost their life savings in the ordeal. "They'd love to have the money to pay the repairs and get their boat back, trust me. If they could, they would."

Steininger is former Milwaukee mayor Daniel Hoan's grandson, who led the city from 1916-1940.

Steininger said he grew up with his grandfather. He said Hoan was all about helping others and would approve the foundation's donation.

He also said the boat owners would be the first to say they're responsible. "They lost their life savings in that boat. Completely. It's a crushing blow to them. They're very responsible people, have led a very decent life. And if they had the money, they'd pay in a New York second. Definitely."

Steininger made the point that the floor of Lake Michigan is littered with hundreds of ships that have crashed or sunk while helmed by brilliant captains.

Earlier this week, County Supervisor Sheldon Wasserman said the county hopes to have the boat removed next Tuesday.
